Approximately 10-20 customers on both sides Marshall Hutts Rd. in the area of Cochran Bait Stand in Arroyo City, Texas were under a Boil Water Notice (BWN). ERHWSC has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by ERHWSC used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of July 28, 2020.
On July 8, 2020, at 12:00 P.M. East Rio Hondo Water Supply Corporation (ERHWSC) (PWS ID 0310096), North Cameron Regional Water Supply Corporation (NCRWSC) (PWS ID 0310152), and ERHWSC-Arroyo City (PWS ID 0310031) will change their primary disinfectant from "Chloramines" to "Free Chlorine". The change in disinfectant is conducted in order to address an extremely strong algae bloom occurring in the Rio Grande River & local resaca system. It will take time after the change in disinfectants for the conversion to take place in the distribution system. We will be using free chlorine 30 days. The 30-day period will end on August 7, 2020 at 6:00 a.m. After that time period ERHWSC will revert back to Chloramines for our disinfection process. During this conversion process a stronger chlorine/bleach odor may be apparent in your drinking water, as these odors are a product of the breakdown of chloramine by free chlorine. All regulatory requirements will be adhered to during this process in regards to the level of chlorine in your drinking water. E.R.H.W.S.C. advises any customers with medical conditions affected by Free Chlorination to consult medical professionals in regards to any affects concerning consuming chlorinated drinking water.
